Hanakagura

Hanakagura
Akan Lake Hot Springs, Hokkaido

A butter cookie very much the same as the Hokkaido omiyage standard-bearer Shiroi Koibito. This is the kind of dependable omiyage that goes well with a cup of coffee in the afternoon.

Coffee

Coffee
Tokyo (Ginza Colombin)

With a color evening picture of the Tokyo skyline and no explanation on the package other than the English word "Coffee," this is generic omiyage at its best.

Yukishio chinsuko

Yukishio chinsuko
Miyako-jima, Okinawa

Roughly "Snow salt Okinawan sweet" in English, this traditional "chinsuko" sweet from Okinawa seems more buttery than salty. It's a small, dry, crumbly finger shaped cookie. Not bad?

Mura suzume

Mura suzume, Shikoku

Verdict: Like a mini azuki crepe. Gotta eat it right away; none of this letting-it-sit-in-your-desk-for-three-months business.
